encompassed a number of research paths across several decades. It was on his
first field trip that Tindale developed a project towards the concept of bounded
tribal territories. His tribal map of Australia (Tribal
Boundaries), first published in 1940 and revised in 1974 together with his
encyclopaedia of Aboriginal tribal groups, was radical in its fundamental
implication that Australia was not terra nullius. A fascinating account of a
unique Australian.

Thousands of people every year visit Aboriginal land for a holiday, to visit
family and friends, or to work. For tourists, the attractions are the
opportunity to see spectacular scenery, experience Indigenous culture such as
designated rock art sites, enjoy the remote environment or take part in a
particular activity, such as a safari hunt.
Like other landowners in Australia, Aboriginal people have legal rights over who
to grant or refuse permission to those wanting to enter or travel through their
land. This permit system is designed to protect the privacy of Aboriginal
communities, as well as preserve Aboriginal culture, safeguard the natural
environment, and promote visitor safety.
If you want to travel through Aboriginal land, it is important to plan your trip
well in advance to avoid disappointment. Different permits and different
conditions apply.
