events, including the Floriade Festival and the Summernats Car Festival. A

Balloon Fiesta

Experience the colour, beauty
and sheer magnificence of the Southern Hemispheres biggest hot air
Balloon Fiesta. With over 50 hot air balloons taking to the air from
6.30 am (weather permitting), from the front of Old Parliament
House. You can enjoy breakfast with the balloons and
entertainment until midday.

 Floriade Festival
Commonwealth Park
Annual from September to October
One of Canberras major yearly festivals, celebrating the coming of spring in Commonwealth Park
with glorious flower power colour. Over 1 million bulbs are planted each
year, and each year often celebrates a different theme.
The Canberra Floriade
Festival is inspired by the Dutch Keukenhof flower display and the Netherlands
Flower Exposition (Hollands Floriade), the latter being held every 10 years.
You can be sure that this wonderful floral display will be a kaleidoscope of
colours, offering some fantastic photo opportunities, as well a month of
entertainment, daily workshops and performances.

A four-day carnival held during the
Christmas-New Year period for the enthusiast and spectator alike, is
a festival of the street machine lifestyle. Held at Exhibition Park
in Canberra, on the corner of the Federal Highway (the main
road from Sydney) and Flemington Road. Mitchell is just 12 km from
Canberra City. A hugely popular event.
