Healing

This painting captured all my experiences growing up with and learning about the different forms of bush medicine — from the use of various parts of the plants and the different ways that animals are used within our culture. Emu meat was known to be good for colds and flue, whilst goanna fat was rubbed into our skin and joints for aches and pains. I remember witnessing the kangaroo being cooked on the fire, and the blood being drained, which was drank for strength. And if all this failed, a spiritual healing, our medicine man/woman was consulted to banish the problem

— this is our healing.
