Stories

I do a number of interpretation of stories my mother and Elders have told me. Paintings can be made created to a variety of sizes.

Story
1 Goanna’s - Unity - Family - Strength - Together

Men and woman passing down knowledge to children - survial skills - how to find water - knowledge of vegetation - how to track.

(Stories are told and kept with pride and respect).

The (Wanambi) Rainbow Serpent travels through the storm. The old people say that when you see a big bright lightning stretch across the sky, that’s Wanambi going to another water hole.

When we go on outings to water holes we know to treat that place with respect and be cautious as Wanambi is down below watching and waiting.

2 Wanambi - The Rainbow Serpent

The lightning flashes and stretches across the sky during a storm. The old people say that it is (Wanambi) The Rainbow Serpent, who travels from water hole to water hole, where he waits and watches silently.

When we go swimming we know to treat Wanambi’s place with respect or suffer the wrath of Wanambi.

3 Elders Passing down Stories, Songs and Dance to Children

Mother, Father passing down knowledge to the children stories, songs, and dance of the land, hunting gathering survival.

4

Grandmothers Way

Elder Ladies take the children out, teach them stories, songs and dance and to have respect for the land for it owns us. The sprits of the past are in the trees, hills, rocks and earth. They will always be watching.

5 Family - Passing Down Knowledge

Respecting the ways of the old people, children maintaining pride and dignity of who they are and where they come from. The land, the stories, songs and dance is what we have left from our old people.

Kulu

All the animal’s had a big meeting.
Who was going to carry the egg of life up to the universe.
The Kulu was chosen.
When you see where the egg of life was carried
Meteorite has landed and dropped, split three ways.
This is our memory of the Kulu
And life began.

7

Tjanpi Kampanyi (Burning Grass)

For generations our people have burnt off the bush land for hunting purposes, safety and regrowth.

The 7 Sisters

Long ago there was Seven Sisters who came down to earth to have
a look around. They liked it here on earth and decided to stay.
One day a man noticed the Sisters and he wanted them for his wives.
He followed the Sisters everywhere trying hard to catch them, but the Sisters kept changing into animals and plants, for they did not want to be wives. The Sisters went back to the skies. You can see them at night all still together hiding from the man, who now became the Morning Star, still searching for them.
