Moloch horridus

The distinctive Thorny Devil is found in arid scrub and desert regions of Central Australia. The spectacular creature is a favourite of many young children, with it’s strange jerky gait and tail held in an upward curve.

The following images were taken on the Luritja Road on route to Kings Canyon. Thorny Devils can also bee seen at the Nocturnal House at the Alice Springs Desert Park and the Reptile Centre in Alice Springs.

— the Thorny Devil was crossing the road, so we helped it cross, not wanting it to get run over.
