If you want to see
snow, now is the time (the June to August period). Sometimes,
this can extend by another month.
Perisher Blue
is the biggest of the resorts offering four ski areas and 51 lifts.
Housing the biggest ski school, just over 20 percent of the terrain
is suitable for beginners, and with 60 percent of the resort
dedicated to cruising intermediates. The half pipe is consistently
rated as the best for snowboarders. There are natural jumps, with
two terrain parks at Blue Cow and perisher. Perisher also has a
dedicated childrens area.
Although smaller,
Thredbo offers the most vertical runs and more black diamond
runs than other resorts. Considerable money has been been poured
into the resort with expansion of accommodation and more snowmaking
facilities, as well as the Australian Institute of Sport accredited
Thredbo Leisure Centre. Following a hard days play, you can enjoy
the numerous restaurants and bars. Thredbo also has a beginners
area and the children can enjoy Thredboland.
The most popular place for beginners is
Selwyn
Snowfields and
Charlottes Pass,
with both offering over 40 percent of terrain that has been
graded easiest. Selwyn Snowfields is popular for families on a
budget.
Following are places that are popular especially during the snow
period. Remember you can contact your local travel agent or
tourist centre for more information. |
