The winery, founded in 1850, has been
classified by the National Trust and is listed on the State and National
Heritage Registers. The cellars, constructed from red gum and limestone, house
the old red gum vats and some of the equipment used by previous generations. The
splendid red gum lever press, hand-sawn in the 1890's, is well worth a look.
Visiting wine enthusiasts are welcome to taste the
wide range of wines while browsing over the old photographs and paintings and

Chapel Hill Winery takes it name from the historic ironstone church built on
the property in 1865. The winery estate was established on the site in 1979,
with the former church serving as the cellar door at Chapel Hill. Located only
40 kms south of Adelaide, the gulf waters provide a moderating heat sink and the
Adelaide Hills deliver cool night breezes, both effecting the Mediterranean
climate by moderating the extremes of temperature. The result is warm dry days
couple with cool nights, an ideal environment for producing richly flavoured
wines.
