Nicholson River Winery
Liddells Rd,
NICHOLSON VIC 3882
Ph: 03 5156 8241 Fax: 03 5156 8433

Wine tasting and cellar door sales. Ring first. Located
between Bairnsdale, gateway to the Lakes and Wilderness area of
East Gippsland, and Lakes Entrance, one of Victoria's most
popular holiday destinations. The winery boasts outstanding
views, perched on a gentle rise overlooking the Nicholson River
and the magnificent Gippsland Lakes.
First planted as a hobby
in 1978, by the owners Ken and Juliet Eckersley, it soon became
obvious that the gravelly loam soils and mild maritime climate
combined to produces some remarkable wines characterised by
fragrant aromas, intense flavours and complexity on the palate.
The Nicholson River Chardonnay, acknowledged as one of
Australia's most complex and opulent wines, was voted "most
popular white wine" at the Victorian Winemakers Exhibition on
eight occasions.
Gippsland wines are soft, early drinking
styles using local fruit.
Montview is the original name of the house going back to the
1880s when it was built using red gum grown on the property,
hence it was chosen as the name for the main range of wines,
offering complex wines at good value.
Nicholson River wines are the Reserve 5 star wines.
