Memorable family holidays in Spain

If you’re looking for the perfect place for you and your family to take a holiday, then there is little reason to look beyond Spain. With such a large choice of destinations to choose from, all of which offer brilliant weather, luxury beaches and a great choice of activities, it’s difficult to go wrong when it comes to deciding where to spend your hard-earned time off.

And it is not just the mainland that offers holidaymakers the chance to enjoy a taste of the Spanish way of life. The Balearic islands, which include Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza, offer visitors the traditional Spanish beach holiday as well as a chance to see some beautiful landscapes. A visit to Mallorca is worthwhile if only for its majestic mountains, the tallest of which reaches 1,445 metres. Relaxing island breaks are also to be had in the Canaries, where possible destinations include Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote, La Palma and Fuerteventura. Extensive beaches are blessed by some impressive bays and reefs. Visitors to the islands enjoy a slightly different holiday to that on offer elsewhere, not least because of the fascinating scenery that is the result of volcanic activity in the past. The tallest mountain reaches 3,718 metres high. The Canaries, as with the Balearics, enjoy the same high temperatures and low rainfall as the mainland.

There is no shortage of excellent tourist destinations on the Spanish mainland either. The Costa Blanca, where the visitor can choose between cosmopolitan liveliness and rural relaxation, is tremendously popular with its brilliant sandy beaches and distinctive local culture. Further to the north, the Costa Brava is equally popular and benefits from the same desirable climate that makes Spain such a popular place to go. Elsewhere, the Costa del Sol boasts fascinating destinations like Malaga and Andalusia, with a vibrant tourist industry perfectly at ease with country villages of the region. Visitors can sample aspects of the local culture, such as bull runs and parades.

A holiday in Spain doesn’t have to be all about sun, sea and sand, however. Spain’s main cities are vibrant destinations, whether just for a day trip or perhaps longer. Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia and handily close to the beaches of the Costa Brava, boasts fantastic architecture as well as a well-respected culinary culture. The nation’s capital, Madrid, is a brilliantly cosmopolitan city with a fascinating old town including such breathtaking sights as Plaza Mayor, the main square. To the south, Seville gives visitors the chance to sample Spain’s Arab legacy, while several lively festivals are also held. These are certainly worth checking out.

For cheap flights to Spain try Monarch airlines or a comparison site like Cheap Flights, which pools together prices from a large number of different providers.
