Charity is the practice of benevolent giving, usually in the form of monetary donation, or providing practical relief in the form of goods such as clothing, furnishing or food. Charity can also be in the form of volunteering, providing your own time, resources and services, although many volunteer services are not necessarily charities.

With many services and organisations struggling to compete for the charitable dollar, there are also some groups that have sprung up to assist with the fund raising. Some have been so successful that they have become annual events. Some of the established charitable organisation also have their annual fund raising events.

Appeals, Donations and Fund Raisers

Australia Specific Appeals
Following are some Australian specific fund raising appeals, some becoming annual fund raiser events:
Drive4Life
• Contact: see website • Email
• Date: varies
Drive 4 Life is a non profit organization set up by a group of long-term four wheel drivers, whose main objective is to raise funds for charitable organizations that do not have a very high profile and therefore have difficulty raising enough funds to achieve their annual objectives.

How do they do this? By conducting "tag-along" four wheel drive tours of parts of Australia that are generally not on the travel "shopping list" of people who own four wheel drives. The tours are aimed at people who have either not had the opportunity to be expertly guided when driving off-road or who do not have the experience to navigate in areas where Drive 4 Life will take them.

How do they raise funds? Participants in the tour make a donation (usually a minimum of $1,000), which is tax deductible, directly to the organisation being supported by the tour, with every cent going to the charity. Tours are generally 5-6 days duration.
Red Nose Day
• last Friday in June
Red Nose Day, held annually on the last Friday in June, is the major fundraiser for SIDS and Kids. Funds raised through Red Nose Day activities assist in providing the vital services and programs for SIDS and Kids throughout Australia. You can also donate online through their website.
