Adaminaby / Old Adaminaby - Cities, Towns and Localities

Old House in the Snowy Mountains

The township of Adaminaby resulted from the damming of the Eucumbene River for the Snowy Mountains Hydro-Electric Scheme and was relocated before the surrounding valleys were flooded. Over 100 buildings were dismantled and re-erected at it’s current location. Due to it’s close proximity to Selwyn Snowfields, Adaminaby is a popular base in winter for skiers. During the rest of the year it attractions include bushwalking, fishing, horse riding and water sports.

Old Adaminaby ChurchOld Adaminaby is a village on the shores of Lake Eucumbene, close to the site of the original Adaminaby township that dated from the 1830’s and was moved to it’s current location during the 1950’s. Some of the early buildings still exist, including one of the original churches located by the lake, 9 km south west of the township of Adaminaby. Over time Old Adaminaby has developed as a holiday village, a popular venue for water skiing, wind surfing, boating and fishing. Lake Eucumbene is regularly restocked with trout by NSW Fisheries.

Attractions include: Lake Eucumbene, Providance Portal, Kosciuszko National Park, the Big Trout, Coolamin Homestead, Historic Kiandra, Murrumbidgee River, Tantangara Dam, Lake Eucumbene, Yarrangobilly Caves, Blue Water Holes, and of course Selwyn Snowfields.
