Araluen is a historic gold ghost town located in the Araluen Valley and about
25 km from Braidwood. It is estimated that some $11 million worth of gold was
taken from the field. You can reach Araluen by sealed road from Braidwood,
which offers some spectacular views of the valley. You can then continue on
through the valley, over mountain passes to
Moruya, a charming small town on
the banks of the Moruya River. With the number of orchard farms, Araluen is
great during spring when the trees are in flower and even more wonderful when
the orchards are fruiting, where visitors can often purchase fruit direct from
