East of
Coonabarabran is the town of
Binnaway. Settled in the mid-1800, Binnaway was once a thriving
steam rail centre serving as a vital transport link between the rich
farming areas, the timber industry of the west, to the coastal
markets and ports. Today an active Rail Heritage Group in Binnaway
is establishing a rail museum and negotiating the purchase of a
train to take visitors on tours through the area.
