Delegate - Cities, Towns and Localities

As you travel south-west of Bombala and just before you reach the Victorian border is the historic village of Delegate.

Laying between the Snowy Mountains region and the Sapphire Coast, Delegate is nestled in rural countryside with nearby natural attractions of the Kosciusko National Park to the west and Errinundra National Park just over the border in Victoria.

The town also boast some pristine trout waters. The rivers tributaries vary in flow and size but all the main rivers and tributaries have a good number of lively Brown Trout and the native Freshwater Blackfish. Some of the best spots with the most constant catches include Craigie, The Delegate, Bendoc, and Little Plains, with the rivers being stocked regularly. For more information contact the Delegate Angling Club (contact details below).

Delegate Attractions

McKillops Bridge
• McKillops Bridge is one of the few places in the Snowy River National Park with access to the Snowy River by conventional vehicle. With McKillops Road the northern park boundary, and with the Alpine National Park to the north of the road, the road is designated unsuitable for caravans, trailers and semi-trailers due to its long, narrow, and steep descent down to McKillops Bridge.

McKillops Bridge crosses the Snowy River near its juncture with the Deddick River upstream of the bridge. A camping site near McKillops Bridge where there is wide sandy beaches and shallow rock pools between the rapids provide a great place for swimming, as well as launching canoes and rafting through the rugged gorges downstream.

There is also an 18 km trail known as the ‘Silver Mine Walking Track’ and the short ‘Snowy River Trail’ that both leave from McKillops Bridge.

For information and brochures about the trail visit the Parks Victoria - Snowy River National Park.
Scenic Drive
• There is a scenic drive that is signposted in Hayden Street that takes in the historic village of Bendoc, the Delegate River Tunnel, forests of the South Eastern Plateau, the small settlement of Bonang, the Delegate River and the Tranquil Valley Tavern, returning you to Delegate.

Other scenic drives takes in McKillops Bridge and Delegate Hill that provides a great view of the surrounding countryside.
