Goanna Headland is believed to be the body of the mythological Dirawong,
a goanna, the benevolent protector that taught the Aboriginal the laws by which
they should live.
Evans Head is popular for fishing, both in the estuaries and along the coast,
and is also home to a commercial fishing fleet. Historically, it was home to the
first commercial prawning port in Australia. Check out some of the travel guide
tours and attractions and visit the local tourist
visitor centre for additional information. For Evans Head accommodation
