Following are some events happening in New South Wales. For more information, check the destination pages of the town or area you are visiting.

Some events happen at the same time throughout Australia, such as Christmas and New Years Eve celebrations, ANZAC Day, Australia Day, local markets, agricultural shows etc. Some scheduled events only have approximate dates, with some dates changing or being cancelled.

January Events - New South Wales

Location Event

  Australian Day
January 26 is day of celebrations around Australia, as many council, shires and other services put on family friendly events. To find out what is happening in your area, check out the government Australia Day site. Just select NSW and search by location.

Parkes Parkes Elvis Revival Festival
• Held annually in early January
• Held at various Locations around Parkes such as Gracelands Function Centre and the main street, Clarinda Street. Each January the town of Parkes comes to alive with the sounds of hip-swivelling Elvis impersonators and fans alike. The weekend usually includes markets, look-a-likes, sound-a-likes, talent quests, rock ‘n’ roll concerts, memorabilia displays, street parades and more. There is something for everyone. Information can be had from the Parkes Visitor Information Centre.

Sydney Sydney Festival
• January
• Annual umbrella event held every January that includes theatre, opera, indoor and outdoor concerts, free events that draw hundreds of thousands of people to celebrate being a Sydneysider and much much more.

Tamworth ABCRA National Finals Rodeo
• January
• Australia's premier rodeo event that include bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback team roping, rope and tie steer wrestling and a number of other events. Watch the competitors battle it out in some actioned packed entertainment.
Tamworth Tamworth Country Music Festival
• Held over 2 weeks in January
• The premier event of its kind in Australia and the second biggest country music festival in the world; where accommodation is often booked out up to 12 months in advance; with many visitors camping in caravans and tents; and estimated visitors numbers to be up to 100,000, you will find the cream of Australia country music talent, and catch a glimpse of up and coming talent.

February Events - New South Wales

Cobargo Cobargo Folk Festival
• February
• Annual folk festival run by The Yuin Folk Club. The Cobargo Folk Festival is one of the best festivals in New South Wales, with top Australian and International folk artists appearing each year and is popular with locals, tourists and folk music lovers.

Glen Innes Glen Innes Agricultural Show • Glen Innes Show Society
• Annual event held in February
• Conducted over three days and nights, with non-stop ring program featuring many facets of life in the outback, including judging competitions of the many displays and livestock, as well as a variety of other special events and attractions. Click here to view some images of the Glen Innes Show...

Goulburn Australian Blues Music Festival
• 2nd weekend of February
• The national festival of Australian Blues, held annually in early February, in a celebration of blues music held in pubs, clubs, restaurants, cafes and other venues around Goulburn.

Jerilderie Jerilderie Letter Event
• February 8th-10th
• The Jerilderie Letter Event commemorates the 1879 raid on Jerilderie by Ned Kelly, Dan Kelly, Steven Hart and Joe Byrne. The raid took place between Saturday February 8th and Monday February 10. During the raid, the Gang robbed the Bank of New South Wales of 2140 pounds, held more than 30 local residents hostage and locked the police in their own cell.

Sydney Sydney Mardi Gras • Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras
• February through to the parade and party in early March
• Now called Sydney Mardi Gras. An event that grew out of gay rights protest marches in the 1970's, and is now celebrated with a month long festival of the queer arts one of Australia's most eclectic and spectacular festivals run without any government funding.
Sydney Tropfest
• Sunday night in February
• This one-day screening of short films by emerging Australian filmmakers is the world's largest of its type. Venues include The Domain and Royal Botanic Gardens attracting over 120,000 viewers last year. The event is now screened live around the country to big screens in all state capitals.

Tumbarumba Tumbafest
• last weekend in February
• A festival celebration of food, wine and music with a jam packed program of entertainment for the entire family.

March Events - New South Wales

Location Event

Bermagui Four Winds Easter Music Festival
• Every second Easter March/April
• Held nine kilometres south of Bermagui, an area renowned for it's glorious beaches and stunning coastline. As always, the Festival provides the audience with a unique experience in a magical site, where artists, winds, birds, even on occasion an Australian String Quartet trained frog, all contribute to the proceedings. Good food and good wine and a Festival Feast add conviviality to the very relaxed picnic atmosphere.

Braidwood Braidwood Show Society (Inc)
• March
• Held annually since 1876, despite drought, two world wars and the great depression. Come and show your support and enjoy a enjoy able family event — ‘Support your district by supporting your show, become a member today’. The Show includes pavilion exhibits, cattle, sheep, work horses, poultry etc.

Glen Innes Minerama
• 2nd Friday in March
• The largest annual mineral and gem show in New South Wales. This annual event is run by a voluntary community committee with the aim of fostering all facets of the lapidary hobby. Everything connected with the lapidary hobby can be seen and brought here from fossils, minerals, uncut and cut gems, jewellery, findings, machinery, grinders, sanders, tumblers, grits, polishes and books etc.

Leeton Leeton SunRice Festival
• Held biennially (every 2 years - even years) over the Easter weekend
• A ten day festival that coincides with the region's massive rice harvest and celebrates the success of the Australian Rice Industry, its unique community and the food and wine of the Riverina region. Events include a Grand Opening Ball, Good Friday Rice and Seafood Night, Ambassador Quest, hot-air ballooning championships, a huge street parade and community carnival.

Narrandera The John O’Brien Festival
• March
• The 5 day event offering all the elements that make for an amazing festival: humour, music, talent, tradition and friendly faces. For the uninitiated this means there’ll be busking, bush dancing, poet’s breakfasts, and comedy shows. There’ll be get-together’s, pub sessions, luncheons and sing-a-longs. There’ll be a parade, a craft fair, an art exhibition and an Anzac tribute. There’ll be street performers and a parade. And there’ll a touch of the Irish, evident in dance and in song.

Tilba Tilba Tilba Festival
• Easter Saturday
• annual Easter Saturday, with music, theatre, games, craft, market stalls and plenty of local produce to sample.

Wellington Wellington Vintage Fair and Swap Meet
• Weekend in March
• The biggest of its kind in the Central West, the Vintage Fair and Swap meet is a treasure trove of old wares, vehicles parts and bric-a-brac. The street parade down the main street of Wellington featuring vintage cars, tractors, motorbikes and traction steam engines on the Saturday morning before the fair. These vehicles along with many other stationary engines are on view at the showground fair for that weekend.
Wellington Wellington Boot Racing Carnival
• 2 days - March/April
• All the enjoyment of country racing in this 16-race, two day carnival of fun and excitement. A big weekend of racing, partying and fun.
