Once part of the busy Hume Highway and now by-passed, Gunning has returned to
being a sleepy township. Located just two hours or 240 km south of Sydney, it is only 44 km
from Goulburn, 41 km from
Yass and 80 km to
Canberra.
Gunning is the centre of what is referred to as the The Shire of Small
Villages, first settled in the 1820s. It offers visitors a heritage experience
and friendly rural atmosphere in what was once an old transport and wool growing
centre.
