Kangaroo Valley is a gentle sloping valley surrounded by the mountains of the Southern Highlands and the magnificent Morton National Park. The beauty of the region and the importance of the township has seen the National Trust in 1975, award Kangaroo Valley ‘Scenic Preserve’ status.

Framed by sandstone escarpments that overlook a lush river valley, rainforest and rural farmland, Kangaroo Valley has a range of accommodation and all the essential services that make it an ideal destination and the perfect location to base yourself for visiting the surrounding region and the Morton National Park.

On the 2nd November 2003, Kangaroo Valley officially became the first Australian mainland town to be ‘Plastic Bag Free’. With all retailers in the town committed to not using plastic shopping bags, and instead to use more environmentally friendly alternatives, it provides a fine example of what can be done. Hampden Suspension Bridge
• The historic Hampden Bridge is the oldest suspension bridge in Australia, forming the gateway in to Kangaroo Valley township. The bridge was built to replace the timber truss bridge of 1875/9, which was in a state of decay by 1893.

The new bridge was designed by Ernest Macartney de Burgh and assisted by Percy Allan. Both men were eminent bridge designers, de Burgh having a bridge over Lane Cove River named after him, and Allen giving his name to the Allen Truss. Just six days after the bridge was completed, a great flood carried away the old timber bridge which was in the process of being demolished.

The Hampden Bridge historical importance is that of being the second major suspension bridge in NSW and the the only surviving timber decked vehicular suspension bridge constructed in the nineteenth century.

Kangaroo Valley Pioneer Museum Park

• Come and visit this historical settlement depicting farm life in the second half of the 19th and early 20th century. On historic building was dismantled from it's original location slab by slab in 1973, and re-erected as a beautiful homestead in the museum grounds by members of the Historical Society. There is a saddlery, a dairy, a forge, a timber cutters hut, a bush school and many more. The magnificent park has BBQ and toilet facilities, with all buildings wheelchair accessible.

Tourist Drives
• There are two popular tourist drives through Kangaroo Valley among others that take in what the region has to offer.

State Tourist Drive 7 — The Panoramic View Route
From Bomaderry to Berry via Kangaroo Valley is approximately 40 km. The route takes in Cambewarra Lookout, from where there are spectacular panorama views of Shoalhaven, stretching from Coolangatta Mountain in the north, down to Pigeon House Mountain just inland from Ulladulla, in the south. The magnificent view includes Point Perpendicular and the renowned Jervis Bay National Park. Whilst here you can enjoy the refreshment to be had at the Cambewarra Mountain Lookout Tearooms and Restaurant. The drive takes in gum trees (Sydney Blue Gum and Southern Mahogany), Bellawongarah Cemetery, Black Ash Mountain Reserve and finally down to historic Berry.
State Tourist Drive 8 — The Waterfalls Route
From Albion Park to Bomaderry, approximately 79 km, this drive takes in Macquarie Pass, Robertson, Fitzroy Falls, Kangaroo Valley and Bomaderry. The three waterfalls on the route are Carrington Falls, Belmore Falls and Fitzroy Falls. There are at least two vantage points from which to enjoy the view - Hindmash Lookout and Mannings Lookout.
