North of Port Macquarie is Kempsey, established in 1836 when
Enoch Rudder started a punt service across the Macleay River. The
town is situated in the Macleay Valley which is mainly dairy farms,
although the first European in the area were timber cutters, with
timber still a main industry of this area.
