Millennium Parkland is Sydney's biggest urban green space. This 870 hectare park
surrounds the Olympic site and includes wetlands, mangroves and natural forest.
The parkland series of millennium markers constructed as cones of earth over
remediated soil, define key entry points to the site. The spiral walkways
leading to the top of the cones are intended to reflect the way much of the site
has been reconstructed as part of cleaning it up.*
A major element of the Olympic Co-ordination Authority's Homebush Bay Masterplan,
Millennium Park will be developed in stages through a range of landscape
development, remediation and other works. The park includes ecological sensitive
areas such as woodlands, salt marsh and wetlands of Newington.
Together, Bicentennial Park and Millennium Parklands provide a great place for
an extended leisurely stroll, bike ride or picnic.
