Murray River

The Murray River has been the preferred location for short or long idyllic summer holidays for many visitors. Along it’s banks, just two and a half hours from Melbourne, is the twin towns paddle steamer capital of Australia, Echuca-Moama. The town is soaked in its rich heritage stemming from its days as a bustling paddle steamer port.
 

With Echuca on the Victorian side of the river and Moama on the New South Wales side of the river, you can just make Echuca-Moama your base and enjoy the many tourist drives, along some of the region’s best scenic routes, including the Barmah Forest and Wetlands, with over 200 bird species. You can also drive through some of Victoria's oldest heritage areas like Lockington and Rochester.
