Orange Attractions and Events - Cities, Towns and Localities |

Orange is well known for its four distinctive seasons and abundance of fresh
produce, which is celebrated in it's annual F.O.O.D event. Other attractions
include the fantastic 360 degree views of the surrounding countryside
from Mount Canobolas.
As well as Mount Canobolas and Lake Canobolas,
visitors can enjoy the Orange City Heritage Trail that takes in the
Holy Trinity Church of Orange (1879) and Duntryleague
(1876). Also of interest are regional galleries,
gardens and parks (including the Orange Botanical Gardens), the many
wineries and Ophir Recreation
Reserve, where Australia’s first payable gold was discovered in 1851.

Cook Park
• Located on the main street at the western end, the park has
fountains, a band rotunda, an aviary, a begonia house, a small pond
and numerous walkways. It offers an ideal location for a picnic with
it’s famed hundred-year-old trees (the first trees were planted in
1880). Pick up the City of Orange Cook Park Heritage Walk brochure
describing all the main features of the park.

Duntryleague
• Towering over the Orange Golf Club, is this extraordinary
building, built in 1876 for local businessman, James Dalton.

Holy Trinity
• Cnr Anson and Byng Streets
• A beautiful Anglican church that dominates
the towns architecture. It is a fine example of High Victorian
Gothic Revival.

Lake Canobolas and Mount Canobolas
• 12 km west of the city centre is Lake Canobolas
with great picnic and barbecue facilities. Another 6 km further on
is the summit of Mount Canobolas, an extinct volcano that rises to
1,395 metres, with 360° views from the summit.

Memorial Avenue
• Anzac Day, 1923 was the date for
the dedication of the Memorial Avenue of Trees along Bathurst Road. Planted to
honour the Orange soldiers who lost their lives in the Great War.

Moulder Park
• Located south of Cook Park, it is spectacular in autumn, as it
winds along a small creek. It is a series of connecting parks which
are separated by the streets it crosses.

Mount Canobolas State Recreation Area
• Located 12 km south-west of Orange.

The Mountain Tea House

• The Mountain Tea House is at the
base of Mt Canobolas on the main road to the summit - a popular place for both
locals and visitors to the area. The Tea House is decorated with rustic relics,
art and craft. It has a comprehensive Information Bay and prides itself on being
children friendly.
Come and join Carol and Rob at the Tea House for a hearty mountain breakfast,
sumptuous morning and afternoon snacks, or a simply delicious luncheon menu.

Orange Botanical Gardens
• Located north of Orange on Kearneys Drive,
the gardens was created as a Bicentennial Project. With a theme
based on both past and current regional vegetation, as well as
plants that enjoy both cold winters and hot summers. The gardens
cover 17 hectares and features the ‘Homestead Gardens’, the ‘Sensory
Gardens’, the ‘Biblical Gardens’ and the ‘Heritage Rose Garden’.

Orange City Heritage Trail
• You can pick up a brochure from the local
Historical Society and Visitor Information Centre which lists 44
places of interest. The walk takes approximately 90 minutes to
complete.

Orange Court House
• Reputedly stands on a site which was originally used for
corroborees by the local Aborigines. It was in this building that
the bushranger Ben Hall was first tried for his alleged involvement
in an armed robbery near Forbes on the 14 April, 1862. The building
was pulled down in 1882 when the present neo-classical building
designed by Colonial Architect James Barnet, was built. It was
completed in 1883.

Orange Public School
• A public school with high pointed large-paned sash
windows, steeply pitched roof and spire, looks more like a church
than a school.

Robertson Park
• The park is opposite the Tourist Information Centre in Byng
Street. It is planted with exotic and native trees and makes a
pleasant place for a picnic, in the centre of the city. The park
came into existence in 1882 and is located on the original site of Blackmans Swamp. Other features included the Whitney Fountain (1895)
and the bandstand (1915). |

opportunity to visit vineyards and taste the glorious wines on offer. With over
50 wineries and vineyards in the region around Orange, including Borenore,
Canowindra, Cudal, Forest Reefs, Mandurama, Millamolong, Molong, Nashdale and

 • The vineyard is located at
860 metres above sea level, on the sheltered northern slopes of Mount
Canobolas, Orange in central western NSW.
A visit to Cargo Road Wines offers the cellar door for tastings on weekends,
the possibility to stroll around the vineyard, have a picnic under eucalypt
trees, look in the gallery and enjoy a meal or coffee in the cafe.
Dogs Welcome - Friendly dogs are welcome to accompany you on your visit to
Cargo Road Winery. We are a leash-free area. Contact us before bringing your
dog to confirm.

 • The vineyard is named after
a quiet street in the rural Humberside village of Burton Pidsea in the UK.
Chestnut Garth Vineyard is 7860 metres from the Orange Post Office hence the
number 786. Follow Burrendong Way for 5 Km past the Orange city limits. As
you approach the small village of March you will see our wine barrel mailbox
on the right just past the March church and the old school house.

 • Out of all the Orange wineries, Orange Mountain Wines has been considered to be
one of the most innovative. The grape variety
Viognier is the cornerstone of the wines we produce. We also produce
wines from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz
grapes, Liqueurs from apples and cherries and Verjus (a non-alcoholic
cooking product), that is a perfect substitute to vinegar or even lemon
juice in many dishes and summer salads.

in 1995 on an undeveloped block on the foot hills of the extinct Mt Canobolas.
The rich weathered volcanic and basalt soils, together with the altitude, allows
a long ripening period to enhance the tropical flavours of the Sauvignon Blanc
and the fresh berries and soft tannins of Cabernet Sauvignon.
Located in Orange this vibrant and distinctive cool climate wine district is
about 3.5 hours west of Sydney, and has many vineyards planted above 600m in

 • Turner’s Vineyard is set amongst
the magnificent rolling countryside of the Central Tablelands in one of the
fastest grape growing regions west of the Blue Mountains. A scenic three and a
half hour drive from Sydney, we are situated on the eastern outskirts of Orange,
on the Sydney Road, which ensures peace and tranquillity, yet only a few minutes
drive from the central business district.
The Vineyard has a great deal to offer with a five star A la Carte Restaurant
and The Vineyard Café each offering open-air terraces with uninterrupted views
across the breath-taking vineyard.
Our Wine Tasting and Museum Complex opens weekends and by appointment, however,
we do offer Wine tasting and Cellar Door sales 7 days a week.

neighbours with existing vineyards on the slopes of Mt Canobolas at a cool
1,000 metres above sea level over looking the township of Orange. The two
vineyards share a common boundary, soil types, climate and rainfall.

• The Orange Farmers' Market is a
predominantly fresh food market that operates monthly at the Orange Showground,
Agricultural Pavilion or when unavailable at the Northcourt - Orange Regional
Gallery. These locations will provide a suitable environment for farmers and
food producers to sell high quality farm-origin and associated value-added food
products directly to customers.

Orange Wine Show, winery tours, wine tasting, fine food and great music, just to
name some of the activities. Taste Orange is a not for profit organisation
