Covering a region that includes 35 km of unspoiled beaches, a
valley of coastal wetlands and estuarine forest, waterways,
mountainous regions, five heritage-listed national parks, abundant
birdlife and marine life, as well as rich farm and pastoral lands,
there is much to see and do in the Tweed Coast/Tweed Shire region. As a sub-tropical
tourist destination, it offers much for the visitor including the
famous Mount Warning that towers over the valley. There are three
main centres that include Murwillumbah, Tweed Heads and the
adjoining Coolangatta. Tweed Heads and Coolangatta are twin towns,
joined on the border of New South Wales and Queensland. South Tweed
Heads stretches along the river estuary to the country town of
Murwillumbah. |

Mount Warning
Towering over the Tweed Valley is Mount Warning, also known as Wollumbin, (cloud catcher) by the Aboriginal. IT is a central core
of the southern hemispheres largest extinct shield volcano.
Offering magnificent views, a climb to the summit to watch the dawn
is a must for those feeling adventurous.

Listed as the Tweed Heads Historic
Site with the NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service the Centre houses a
cultural display
showing all aspects of Aboriginal lifestyle in the north coast of
NSW. The Centre comprises an office, shop, refreshment kiosk, museum, art
gallery, and amphitheatre for outdoor performances. The Centre conducts various tours,
which encompasses a walk along the adjoining mangrove area. The boardwalk and
walking track is along the Ukerabagh Passage estuary,
overlooking the nearby Ukerabagh Nature Reserve.

The Tweed Maritime and Heritage Museum is open 11AM to 4PM DST
Tuesday, Thursday and Friday (excluding Public Holidays) and 1PM to
4PM DST Sunday. It has an extensive collection of local, Maritime,
and photographic artefacts. The museum is located at Pioneer Park,
Kennedy Drive, Tweed Heads West.

Located at Tweed Heads about 1 km south of the NSW/Queensland border, bounded by Ukerebagh Nature Reserve, Ukerebagh Passage, a suburban street and the
Tweed-Coolangatta Golf Course. The historic site covers a region of about 8
hectares, includes the Minjungbal Cultural Centre, some areas of significant Aboriginal heritage including the
sacred Bora Ring, and is jointly managed by the NSW National Parks and
Wildlife Service with the local Aboriginal community.
