For those seeking pet friendly accommodation here in Australia’s Northern Territory, there are a range of options from farmstays to self-contained apartments and cottages. Some providers only permit pets outside, whilst others may allow you to have your pets inside. Some venues such as camping and caravan parks, allow pets at certain times of the year and under certain conditions.

Where ever you want to stay, you should always contact them to clarify that they will allow you to bring your pet.

And remember, always keep your pets under control. Clean up their mess afterwards. Be responsible for any damages caused by your pets. Do not spoil it for other pet owners who follow you.

As throughout Australia, you must have your dog under effective control at all time when in public places, it must wear a collar, should have an identification tag and be controlled on a leash (except in approved off leash areas). Travellers taking their pets on holiday should ensure their dogs are socialised and trained so they are not aggressive and does not continually bark. You should also pick up after your dog when it defecates in public places, and dispose of it in the appropriate manner.

Visitors to Alice Springs can take their dogs to a number of parks managed by the council, with a number providing doggie bags on site to pick up after your dog, although you should always bring your own, just in case the dispensers have run out. There are also a number of places along the Todd River, that are away from the public that can be great fun for you and your dogs, especially if there is water in the Todd River. There are also a number of tracks through crown land, bush and on the lower ranges around Alice Springs that are popular with locals walking their dogs. Care should be taken if your dog is not use to this environment, as there are often kangaroos and snakes. Whilst dogs and pets are not permitted in the national parks, there are a couple of exceptions.

Dogs at time of writing, are permitted in the Owen Spring Reserve, but only in the area south of the Waterhouse Range. There is a popular waterhole, Redbank Waterhole, that is a favourite with dog owners, as it also allows for bush camping. Check the Owen Spring Reserve for more information.
