Located on the Stuart Highway, about 135 km north of Alice Springs and some 370 km south of Tennant Creek, is Aileron, home of the giant figure of ‘Anmatjere Man’.

At 17 metre tall he strikes an impressive figure as he overlooks Aileron and the surrounding region. The figure is 12 metres high, with the tip of the spear taking it to 17 metres.

Weighing approximately 8 tonnes, the sculpture is made from steel frame, mesh wire and ferris cement. The project, including the statue and the ‘Hollywood’ style Aileron sign took approximately 18 months.

The sculptor is by local artist Mark Egan, who is well known for his large subjects.

For more information, a CD is available from the Aileron Roadhouse that contains the making of the Amatjere Man and a history of the region.
