Visitors walking pass the back wall of the Coles Complex will see a magnificent
mural that was painted when the Alice Springs Railway was still located on
Railway Terrace.
In 1981 local artists Bob and Kay Kessing supervised the painting of a giant
mural on the western wall of the then newly completed Coles shopping complex in
Railway Terrace. Envisaged as a community mural by the artist, and with the
help of volunteers, the 80 by 7 metre mural was completed over several months.
The mural depicts Territory life and history, figures in Central Australia and
Alice Springs of the time. Thoroughly researched and discussed with local
historians and others, it depicts scenes from major events throughout Central Australian
history, since pre-European settlement. |
