Red-tailed Black-Cockatoo
(Calyptorhynchus banksii)

This magnificent bird is often conspicuous by the noisy behaviour, often in large flocks travelling to water in the morning and evening.

The male has rounded crest, when erected it is forward over the forehead. The tail bears the distinctive red panels, that are best seen when in flight.

Found in a variety of habitats from tall wet mountain forests of the south east to the open tropical forest of the far north. Found in the interior, especially where there are tree-lined rivers. Have been seen in large flocks in Central Australia.
