Masked Woodswallow
(Artamus personatus)

These gregarious birds with their dusty tones of grey, white and their distinctive black masked face can be seen soaring and travelling high in the sky, often in large flocks, and feeding on flying insects.

Found throughout most of Australia, except for far north Queensland, far north of Western Australia and Tasmania, the Masked Woodswallows migrate from the north in spring to breed. They can be seen in quite large flocks, feeding on flying insects.

Found in open forests, woodlands, heathlands, orchards, and farmland tree belts, their nest is made up of fairly loose arrangement of twigs and grass stems.
