The festival is run by a committed band of ‘beanie-ologists’ and their
volunteers. Originally organised to sell beanies
crocheted by Aboriginal women in remote communities, it has grown into a fun
event where Aboriginal and non- Aboriginal artists share their culture and
exhibit together. The festival is jammed packed with activities including the
gala opening, entertainment, exhibition, competition beanies and announcement of
the competition winner, projects and installations, craft workshops,
demonstrations of indigenous craft work from the Ngaanyatjarra Pitjantjatjara,
Yankunytjatjara Women's Council, and ‘Beanie Central’, where you can see, touch
and try on the many hand-made beanies for sale. |
