Ilparpa Claypans / Ilparpa Valley - Cities, Towns and Localities
Except for the occasional permanent waterholes, Central Australia is the last place you expect to see water. Yet on the rare occasions that it does rain, floods can occur and formerly dry riverbeds fill. Another unique Australian natural occurrence are claypans filled with water.

Just 15 km south east of Alice Springs are the Ilparpa Claypans, located at the western end of the Ilparpa Valley. Forming part of the Roe Creek catchment, these claypans are often dry, although with the good recent rainfall, they filled with water, providing a great attraction for the locals.
