Ilparpa Claypans / Ilparpa Valley - Cities, Towns and Localities
Red Pussytail / Longtail
Ptilotus polystachyus

Part of the flowering group of plants known commonly as Mulla Mullas, the Red Pussytail is the red form of the more common pale green-yellow Long Tails. Red Pussytail is the local name for this variant of the Long Tail.

An erect, sometimes sprawling herb that can grow up to 2 metres high, the plant is characterised by its flower spikes, that start off short and extend into a long narrow cylinder shape.

The following were found growing among the more predominate Longtails at the Ilparpa Claypans.
