Australian Ringneck (Barnardius zonarius)

This distinctive parrot is green on top and below, but with a yellow belly and with a characteristic black hood, an electric blue on the cheeks and contrasting yellow collar.

The Australian Ringneck habitat ranges from forest through to scrub, farmland and semi-arid regions, but usually near water. Fairly common around Alice Springs and along the MacDonnell Ranges. Seen feeding on the ground eating native seeds and plants.

They are gregarious by nature and can be see in groups. They nest in tree cavities.
