Finke Desert Race
2nd weekend of June (Queens Birthday weekend)
The greatest desert race in the southern hemisphere attracts record entrants and
thousands of spectators. The Finke to locals and off road racers around the
world, is a unique outback race for bikes, cars and buggies, stretching some 235
km through desert country, from Alice Springs to Finke (Aputula Community).
The race follows sections of the Old Ghan Railway service track, adjacent to the
railway line, along a winding corrugated track that snakes its way through red
dirt, sand, desert oak, mulga and spinifex country. The length of this
spectacular route enables people to stake a position along the track, and even
camp underneath the stars, whilst enjoying the adrenalin fuelled fun of a
uniquely Central Australian event. See the website for more information.

ASSA ABLOY HENLEY ON TODD |
Assa Abloy Henley on Todd Regatta
Mobile: 0418 897 027

Held 3rd Saturday of August - the next event is the 50th anniversary on Saturday 20th
August, 2011
The world famous boat race is an
annual event held on the Todd River. All that is needed for this
madcap event, is a dry riverbed, plenty of bottomless boats, plenty of frivolity
and laughter, and the human kind
of horse power. Starting with the parade at 11 am up Todd Mall, with contestants showing
off their boats, the Henley-on-Todd provides a nautical madcap day of
entertainment, finishing with the traditional Battle of the Boats.
The only time the boat race may not run to schedule is if the Todd River is
flowing, as happened in 1993, when there was too much water in the Todd River
and the event had to be cancelled due to flooding! |
