Australian Hobby (Falco
longipennis)
A widely distributed bird across Australia, the Australian Hobby
is a small, fast falcon with a dark upper and rufous, streaked brown underbody.
The speed and agility of the bird enables it to catch prey whilst in flight,
ranging from large insects, bats and other birds. In Central
Australia they can be seen around open woodland areas, scrublands, and along the
dry riverbeds lined with trees, from which they can perch. |
