Sturt’s Desert Pea
Swainsona formosaThe iconic Sturt’s Desert Pea occurs
in all mainland states except Victoria and is also found growing in the
southern part of the Northern Territory. Although more commonly recognised in
the scarlet red with black boss, the flower colour forms can range from white,
pale to deep pink and apricot, wither with or without a black boss. Although
rare, there have been reported a bicoloured form, in which the standard is
scarlet and the other petals, the wings and keel, are white tipped and edged
with scarlet. There is also the Northern form of the Sturt’s Desert Pea, which
is identifiable due to the paler boss. |
