Ochre Pits in Central Australia - Cities, Towns and Localities
Aboriginal people have extracted ochre from these cliffs for thousands of years. The ochre from here is still used by Western Arrernte people, mainly for ceremonial purposes.

Following are some images of the ‘ochre pits’.

The Aboriginal custodians of this site have made a special request to visitors not to touch or remove ochre from the cliffs. There are ochre samples available for use in the Touch Box in the shade shelter.
