Western Brown Snake / Gwardar
Australia has many ‘deadly creatures’ ranging
from jellyfish to spiders. Among these Australia has more species of venomous
snakes than any other continent (21 of the world’s 25 deadliest snakes), one of
which is the ‘Western Brown
The Western Brown Snake is found across the Northern Territory, South
Australia, Western Australia, Queensland, New South Wales and Victoria. This
venomous snake can be very fast and aggressive, especially if it feels
threatened or disturbed. Even the young snake are venomous. The Western Brown
has been responsible for a number of snake bite deaths in Australia.
Western Brown can be found in a wide variation in of colouration and
pattern, with 16 known colour forms recognised in the Northern Territory alone3.
