The East MacDonnell Range starts from Heavitree Gap and stretching east from Alice Springs and encompassing Emily Gap, Jessie Gap, Corroboree Rock, Trephina Gorge, Ross River and N'Dhala Gorge.

The ranges is one of the most important areas to provide refuge for many endemic plants and wildlife. Rich in flora and fauna, there also a number of introduced species including wildlife such as donkeys, camels and horses. Trephina Gorge Nature Park offers a great place for bird watching.

Following are wild donkeys that were seen in the East MacDonnell Range region, just before Ruby Gap.
