Simpsons Gap and surrounds offers visitors an opportunity
experience to explore the beauty of the landscape, as well as learn about the local flora and fauna. Located in the West MacDonnell National Park,
as well as the resident Rock Wallabies, Simpsons Gap is also renowned for the different species of frogs and
the number of frogs that can be seen.
When conditions are right in Simpsons Gap, some nights you
may see thousands of frogs, as occurred during the rains in January and February, 2010.
Locals and visitors witnessed an unprecedented number of frogs and frog species.
The gap is home to Centralian Green Frogs (both the green and
brown variety), the Desert Tree Frog (both the pale colour and the darker
brown-reddish colour), Main’s Frog and the Spencer’s
Burrowing Frog.
