Stuarts Well Roadhouse - Cities, Towns and Localities
Located just 90 km south of Alice Springs is Stuarts Well Roadhouse and Caravan Park. Known as Jim’s Place by the locals, it is a great place to stop and spend an hour or so, or maybe stay overnight.

There is a general store for basic supplies and fuel. You can also get take-away food, fresh home cooked meals and a selection of souvenirs and Aboriginal art.

There is an animal enclosure which features a large pond, that has become home to injured wildlife. Browse through the photographic history of tourism in Central Australia and have a cold one at the licensed bar.

Other facilities include an outdoor barbecue entertainment area, pool and spa. There are also cabins and budget rooms available, as well as shaded powered drive-through caravan sites. Some free overnight camping is also available.

If you want to hold a function or a special get together for your families or workmates, give them a ring.

Stuarts Well Roadhouse Attractions

Jim’s Place at Stuarts Well in the Northern Territory is more than just another pit stop on the highway, it is home to Jim Cotterill, a member of the Cotterill family who in the 1950s settled in Alice Springs and became pioneers of the Central Australia’s tourist industry.

For those who have visited the spectacular Kings Canyon, you may have notice an stone monument at the base of the Canyon that reads ‘In memory of Jack Cotterill, whose foresight and effort made it possible for us all to visit this wonderful place’. Today, for many people in the Red Centre the Cotterill name is legendary.

It was in the early 1950s that Jack Cotterill, with his wife Elsie and sons John and Jim, migrated from Britain to Australia and settled in Alice Springs. It was the Cotterill family who cut the first road to Kings Canyon and Watarrka National Park. Today, it is at Jim's place where you can view the photographic history of tourism in Central Australia, meet Jim and his family including ‘Dinky’ the singing dingo.
