Denmark is the only Scandinavian country connected to the European mainland,
where the southern border of the Jutland Peninsula meets with Germany. It is located
in Northern Europe, between the North Sea and the Baltic, southwest of Sweden
and south of Norway. Denmark also includes some 406 islands, such as Funen (Fyn),
Bornholm and Zealand (Sjๆlland), whilst many other are uninhabited. The largest
island is Sealand (Zealand), on which is located the capital of Denmark,
Copenhagen. In addition there are the territories of Greenland and the Faroe
Islands which are under the Danish crown, whilst enjoying political home rule.
There are 13 counties and some 271 municipalities. |
