Located on the eastern shores of the Mediterranean Sea, Lebanon (Lebanese
Republic) is bordered by Syria (to the north and east), and Israel to the south.
With it's mainly Mediterranean climate (hot and dry summers, cool and rainy
winters), it does offer sunshine throughout most of the year. There are four
main geographic regions that include the coastal plain, the Lebanon mountain
range, the Bekaa Valley and the Anti-Lebanon range. The capital city Beirut is
located on the Mediterranean coast. Other popular cities and destinations
include Tripoli, Byblos, Tyre, Baalabak and the Bekaa Valley region (an
extension of the Great Rift Valley). The highest mountain peak is Qornet Es-Sauda
(3,090 m) and the two major rivers are Litani and the Orontes. |
