With the issue of terrorism, tsunami, earthquakes and hurricanes hitting the headlines, it becomes even more important for travellers to become informed. Although there are no centralised sites, often online resources become available, compiled by various organisations in the aftermath of disaster.

Following are some links to sites that can lead you to the information you want and links to others.

Disaster Overseas

• When travelling to another country, check out this DFAT site containing general advice, country-specific travel advice and advise against travelling to specific countries.

The travel advisories are careful assessments that draw on a range of sources of current information. There is information on countries where they advise against travelling and countries where they advise against non-essential travel.

Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade • DFAT
• Provides a wealth of information on Australia and countries around the world. Check out the Country, economy and regional information section. If disaster strikes whilst overseas, DFAT is also one of the first places Australian's should contact, both overseas and their families back home.

• Involved in disasters around the world, humanitarian programs and appeals, this site is a source for all those necessities from food, shelter and locating people.

Centrelink Disaster Relief Payment
• National government site that provides relief payments for the victims of major or widespread disasters.

Disaster Preparation

New South Wales State Emergency Service • SES
• Government site that contains advice on preparing for an emergency, including emergency contact numbers and a great Links page to similar services throughout Australia.

NSW Fire Brigades
• Information and tips about fire safety. Also Links to other similar services around Australia.

• The aim of this site is to help those separated by conflict or disaster to find information about their loved ones in order to restore contact.
