Welcome to our tourism information guide on annual events for England.

England was once the centre of the world, now with its large urban centres, royal family, history and heritage, it continues to draw the attention of travellers from around the world. As a major tourism destination, it offers many local attractions, as well as being close to other popular tourist destinations.

Of course, the heart of England is the Capital City of London, and with the world's attention focused on the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, it will be one of the most exciting times to visit. There is also the London 2012 Festival and Olympic Torch Relay and the packed scheduled calendar of events celebrating the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and Dickens Bicentenary, making 2012 the year to visit, especially for those who have yet to come.

London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games

From the lighting of the flame in Greece on the 10 May 2012, to arrive in the UK on the 18th May 2012.

Information about the Olympic Torch Relay and its 70 days across the UK with 8,000 Torchbearers can be seen on the official website. You can also see the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay on Facebook.

The London 2012 Games is centred around the Olympic Park in east London. As well as the new sporting venues built for the games, other venues will also be used including the Wembley Stadium (for football), the All-England Club (in Wimbledon for tennis), Lord's Cricket Ground (for archery), and Horse Guards Parade (for beach volleyball).

• Dickens 2012 is an international celebration of the life and work of Charles Dickens that marks the bicentenary of his birth.

Dickens 2012 is an international celebration of the life and work of Charles Dickens to mark the bicentenary of his birth, which falls on 7 February 2012. Institutions and organisations from all over the world are partners of Dickens 2012 and work together to deliver a programme of events and activities to commemorate this very special anniversary.

Although a writer from the Victorian era, Dickens’s work transcends his time, language and culture. He remains a massive contemporary influence throughout the world and his writings continue to inspire film, TV, art, literature, artists and academia. Dickens 2012 sees a rich and diverse programme of events taking place in the run up and throughout the whole of 2012.

The Queen's Diamond Jubilee
• 2nd - 5th June 2012
• Having come to the throne on 6th February, 1952, with the Coronation taking place on the 2nd June 1953, this year 2012 marks 60 years of the Queen's reign. With the events culminating on the central weekend of the 2nd to 5th June, 2012, the Queen's programme in her Diamond Jubilee year will be announced on the Official website of The British Monarchy.

• Canterbury Festival is Kent’s International Arts Festival, the largest festival of arts and culture in the region, and one of the most important cultural events in the South East.
