Travellers coming from London can take the train, the journey being approximately 2 1/2 hours to Cardiff or by car, accessible via the M4 motorway.

Wales conjures up different things for different people, poet and writer Dylan Thomas, the poetic language, heavenly male choirs, rugby union, funny place names, beautiful scenery, moorlands and mountain ranges.

Wales is generally a mountainous country, especially in the north and central regions. The highest mountain is Snowdonia (Eryri), located in the largest national park in Wales, Snowdonia National Park. With nine mountain ranges that cover approximately 54% of the park, Snowdonia also has the largest natural lake in Wales. With its steep river gorges, waterfalls, valleys, estuaries and 23 miles of coastline and sandy beaches, the park is a popular tourism destination, lured by the beauty and diversity of landscape.

For local government purpose, Wales is divided up into council areas. For tourism, the following areas are often used when promoting the different regions of the country: North Wales, Mid Wales, South West Wales, South East Wales and the Capital City of Cardiff.
