The 50th anniversary of the
Henley-On-Todd Regatta was a rip roaring, fun filled event...
This iconic Centralian event is one of the most unique boat races in the world - held as it is on the
Todd River, the
main river through
Central Australia. Indeed, it is the only boat race in the world that has
been cancelled due to water and flooding on the river. This is the Territory's longest running iconic
event and offers the chance of anyone attending to enter in any one of the the
boating inspired races.
It is one of those funtastic sight to see the sails of the mini yacht and the
mixed maxi yacht sailing up and down the Todd River. Powered by the wind in
their sails and the stamp of many feet ploughing through the sand, the roar of
the crowd cheering the boats on.
The 'Mini-Yacht' is manned by a crew of 4-6, whilst the 'Mixed Maxi-Yacht' is
manned by a crew of 8-10 people. The race takes them to the turning buoy and
then back to the finish line.
