The
MacDonnell Ranges extend both east and west of Alice Springs, separated at Heavitree Gap into the
East MacDonnell Range and the
West MacDonnell Range.
The western section is most probably the better known part of the
MacDonnell Ranges, extending west of
Alice Springs over 160 km
and encompassing some of the iconic attractions, as well as the famed
Larapinta Trail, although the East MacDonnell Range and surrounds also offer
some equally great attractions. This vast, ancient and spectacular section to
the west of the
MacDonnell Ranges, encompasses the
West MacDonnell National Park,
stretching pass
Glen Helen Gorge. It is here that you can enjoy one of the best ways to see
the magnificent ranges... from the air. Helicopter rides are available from the
Glen Helen Resort. If you can afford it, we highly recommend the extended
helicopter rides on offer, as you get to see more of the magnificent landscape. |
