Only 32 km north-east of Mackay and famous as an international
tourist resort, Brampton Island offers a romantic holiday
in natural surroundings, at a price that is reasonable. An important
national park area, attractions
include walking tracks, native flora and fauna, sandy coves, six
secluded beaches, a panoramic view over Whitsunday's and a koala colony.
Brampton Island is considered by some to be the southern most island
in the Whitsunday Island Group. However services operating in the
Whitsunday's (ie ferry services from Hamilton Island and from the
mainland port at Shute Harbour) do not include Brampton in their
itinerary. It is more accurate to say that Brampton Island is part
of the 70 islands which constitute the Cumberland Group.
