Cape
Tribulation is an area just north and part of the Daintree National Park and is one of the few
places in Australia where the rainforest runs right down to the water.
This Wet Tropical Rainforest region is now protected by World Heritage.
The region is accessible by conventional vehicles, except during periods
of heavy rain. The Daintree Ferry provides access into the Cape
Tribulation area. After crossing by ferry, you travel through lowland
and tropical rainforest passing road junctions for Cape Kimberley and
Cow Bay. The road runs over several high capes and alongside some great
beaches, offering some great coastal views and attractions. You can
camp at Noah Beach only, camp by self registration.
Location: 150 km north of Cairns.
Access: by air from Cow Bay Airstrip, by coaches, and vehicle
access. Road to Cape Tribulation is 95 per cent sealed. After this four
wheel drive is essential and road can be closed.
Visitor Facilities: short walking trails, lookouts, camping,
toilets, picnic tables, water. There are accommodation, cafes and shops nearby.
