Another mining town in the Peak Downs region servicing
the giant Gregory Coal Mine which produces about 3 million
tonnes of coal each year. Capella was not built specifically for the mine, it has
been established since 1883 and the town is home to rich
fertile soils and a decent rainfall of nearly 600mm
annually, enabling the production of sunflowers, wheat,
legumes, chick peas and beef. The main geographic feature of this area would have to be
the Peak Ranges a number of volcanic plugs that make great
